Hiroshi Yamamoto (Hakuho)

Born in Shiga-prefecture, Japan, Hiroshi graduated Kyoto Industrial Design Institute and Kyoto Japanese Art School, studied traditional arts and history, including Nihonga and Sumi-e style painting. He studied under Mr. Rokuro Yamamoto, a specialist in Nihonga, and is deeply influenced by the works of Tohaku Hasegawa, an artist from the 16th century.

Hiroshi’s work has received awards in the graphic art field in Japan, USA and Canada. He had over 20 individual exhibitions, in both Japan and Canada.

Nihonga

Nihonga uses charcoal, mineral pigments, shell white, and occasionally, gold or silver leaf, on washi (rice paper) or silk. The effect is texture and luminosity not seen in Western style painting.

Sumi-e

Sumi-e is a traditional Japanese brush painting technique, which is based on using an oriental brush and blank ink or subtle watercolours. Sumi, meaning ‘ink’ (–e meaning ‘painting’) in Japanese, is distinguished by its simple expressions of beauty and elegance.

山本　博 プロフィール

雅号 [白歩] １９４８年滋賀県生まれ。京都産業デザイン研究所及び京都日本画専門学校卒業。
山本六郎氏に師事。１９７４年カナダに渡り、デザイン、西洋画、中国画等を学んだ。
１９９２年トロント大学ビクトリアカレッジで初の個展。以降国際交流基金トロント 文化センター、モントリオール植物園日本館な２０数回の個展、グループ展を開催。 トロントART EXPO、パレットギャラリー、日本のギャラリー近江で定期的に作品を 発表している。その作品はカナダ、アメリカ、イギリス、日本で所蔵されている。 　画材には日本画の顔彩、岩絵具、墨、パステルなどを使用し和紙に描く。詩情あふれる花や風景は近年愛好家の支持を得ている。
